Filipino senator requests examination of CoD employee suspensions

A Filipino Senator has requested the Senate look into reports that City of Dreams Manila would suspend around 100 workers to cut costs.

According to local newspaper The Inquirer, Miriam Defensor-Santiago filed a resolution over concerns  the casino operator might be setting a “precedent for other employers and business owners to suspend workers when convenient, with utter disregard for these workers’ rights.”

“The losses were allegedly due to gaming tax and license fees; inventories consumed; employee benefit expenses; depreciation and amortization; other expenses; payments to the Philippine parties; interest expenses; other finance fees; and amortization of deferred financing costs,” the Inquirer quoted the resolution as saying.

It was reported that the employees will be reinstated once the casino’s business improves.

City of Dreams Manila saw its loss from April to June increase year-on-year by 27 percent to PHP1.82 billion ($39.6 million).
