First Sochi casino to open in 2016-17

The first casino in Sochi is expected to be open in the next two years, said a spokesperson for the Sochi-based Gorky Gorod resort, Elena Zakharova, according to Yuga.ru.

"Everything depends on the timing when a casino operator will get necessary permits and sign documents with Gorky Gorod. According to the optimistic scenario, it will happen in 2016-2017," she said.

Zakharova also stressed that placing a casino at any of the resort's buildings requires mandatory approval by the resort's management.

"So far, none of the existing or potential tenants have sent us any applications to approve the use of any buildings and premises for gambling institutions," she added.

Gorky Gorod's spokesperson also said that the resort did not plan to change its target audience with the emergence of the gambling zone there.

"Obviously, we have not set the task of turning Gorky Gorod into Las Vegas. Respectable clients come to our resort, and now we are ready to offer them another way to diversify their leisure time. In addition, during the development phase of the project we will maximally maintain the balance of interests of clients opting for mountain recreation and customers opting for gambling activities," she concluded.

Earlier in August, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev gave a green light to the gambling zone in Sochi by signing a decree in this regard.
