Former Skycity manager sentenced for fraud

A former casino manager of New Zealand’s SkyCity Casino in Hamilton has been sentenced to seven years and eight months in prison for embezzling a total of almost NZ$2.8 million from her former employers, local media reports.

Tessa Grant was sentenced on Monday in the Hamilton District Court after pleading guilty to ten fraud and theft charges which covered the period between 2008 and 2015.

It is understood that Grant managed to steal around $796,000 from Waikato Diocesan School for Girls where she was commercial manager, and later, around NZ$2 million from SkyCity Hamilton, where she was finance manager and later general manager of the casino.

It is understood Grant used the proceeds from her fraudulent actions to fund a luxury lifestyle including property, designer jewellery and a horse arena.

The money stolen from the school was paid back with interest, however, it is understood that SkyCity casino is still chasing its money through civil court proceedings.
