Four men charged with illegal export of greyhounds

Australian greyhound racing authorities have charged four men for illegally exporting greyhounds to mainland China and Macau.

The racing participants including Paul Wheeler, Danny Li, Wei Shan and Yiwen Xi face charges in relation to the alleged export of nine greyhounds to China without a greyhound passport and certified pedigree issued by Greyhounds Australasia.

The four men have also been charged with conduct that is detrimental to the image of greyhound racing.

The participants will have an opportunity to respond to the charges at a hearing, scheduled to take place at the end of March 2018.

The NSW greyhound body requires any person intending to export a greyhound must, prior to meeting the quarantine and inspection service requirements of the relevant country, obtain a greyhound passport and certified pedigree issued by Greyhounds Australasia.
