Tribal casino operators Foxwoods and Mohegan both witnessed a fall in revenue in October as a result of the opening of MGM Springfield in neighboring Massachusetts.
Foxwoods reported October slot machine revenues of US$34.4 million, which represented a 10 percent year-on-year decline. Mohegan Sun reported slots revenues of $42.6 million, which was also a 10 percent drop.
MGM Springfield opened its doors on August 24 in a location more easily accessible to many people in the US northeast.
The region’s gaming industry may become even more competitive next year if Wynn Resorts’ Encore Boston Harbor is granted a license for the business.
All four companies are expected to seek an IR license in the Japanese market.
