Galaxy reveals vision for Japan IR, expands executive team


Galaxy Entertainment Group on Wednesday unveiled their vision for their proposed integrated resort in Japan.

Appealing to both Japanese and international guests, GEG and their partner, Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer, said they envision the development of an IR that will have a transformative impact on the Japanese economy and the city and community it will be located.

The company said it plans to combine the best of Europe, Asia and Japan, which will be seen in the brands, events, gastronomic and hospitality experiences, management teams, global marketing and financial strengths of all parties involved.

“For over 150 years, Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer have provided World Class IR experiences to visitors from around the world including Japan, helping to transform the Principality of Monaco into one of the most successful destinations in the world.  And GEG have an unrivalled track record in Asia, building and operating iconic properties that are not only very successful financially, but of a quality comparable with our properties in Monaco. Together, we believe that an IR in Japan must be both World Class and Japan Inspired in order to be truly successful and to support the Government’s stated tourism objectives to attract 60 million tourists a year by 2030”, said Mr. Jean-Luc Biamonti, CEO and chairman of Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer.

Commenting on the partnership, Mr. Michael Mecca, member of the board and Senior Advisor of GEG and board member of S.B.M said; “Our partnership promises something truly unique for Japan. Together, we possess the financial capability, integrity and strength of vision to bring Integrated Resorts to Japan successfully, using them as a powerful catalyst for growth, not only economically, but socially and culturally as we have done in the other cities where we operate.”

The deliver on this vision, GEG announced it is expanding its executive team in Japan, with the appointment of Mr. Ted Chan as chief operating officer – Japan Development, Mr. Satoshi Okabe as general manager, Mr. James Takagi as head of commercial and Ms. Ayumi Takagi as head of planning and media relations.  

The new hires will join existing executives including; Mr. Jeremy Walker, vice president and Mr. Yukio Isa, who’s role will change to advisor, Japan Development.
