Gaming sector saw business performance improvement in 2016


Macau’s gaming sector saw a year-on-year improvement in business performance in 2016, with the gross value added recording positive growth, according to data from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

Gross Value Added is a measure of the sectoral contribution to the economy, which edged up 0.5 percent year-on-year to MOP 155.4 billion.

Total gaming receipts amounted to MOP 229 billion, down by 1.8 percent year-on-year in 2016. This was compared to a decrease of 34.3 percent recorded in 2015.

Total expenditure of the gaming sector amounted to MOP 96.9 billion, down by 4.8 percent year-on-year.

Operating expenses however increased 12.7 percent year-on-year to MOP 23.9 billion, with expenditure on complementary goods & services provided to customers (such as hotel accommodation and food & beverage) making up the largest portion of the total amount.
