GCash warns users of fake PAGCOR-accredited apps

Leading mobile digital wallet provider GCash is warning users in the Philippines that gambling sites and apps are being taken over to provide a front of accreditation while falsely redirecting users to other sites.

According to reports, the landing pages of certified pages are being taken over to then redirect users to provide their personal information into fraudulent websites.
These sites may have previously been registered with PAGCOR, as the scam operators target legitimate gaming sites to then serve as mirrors to their landing pages.
“Our intensified collaboration with law enforcement authorities will continue to expose these scams, but we encourage everyone to join this crusade by staying informed about phishing,” said GCash’s Chief Technology and Operations Officer.
