Genting to hear on New York casino license in Oct

New York state, including Malaysia’s Genting Berhad, may get decisions next month the state’s Gaming Facility Location Board said after two days of hearings this week, though it was not going to be held to any particular deadline, the board is quoted as saying according to local reports.
Nine bidders for up to two casinos in the Hudson Valley/Catskills casinos areas made their pitches yesterday, ending a two-day marathon of 16 bidders presenting their plans.
The proposals all have big tickets: a: 446-room hotel and spa is proposed at the former Nevele resort in Ulster County for $640M; and Genting wants a $1.5 billion facility with 1,000 hotel rooms about 40 miles from Manhattan in Tuxedo, Orange County. Caesars is proposing a $880 million resort near Woodbury Commons in Orange County.
The proposals from 16 casinos and developers “touted job incubators and economic development opportunities,’’ the report said.
“The Catskills was once in its heyday the number one tourist destination in America,” Nevele CEO Angelique Brunner is quoted as saying. “After numerous attempts, the community is closer than ever to fulfilling its dream of rebuilding the tourism-based economy.”
