Goa shuts down all casinos until the end of March

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has ordered that all of the state’s casinos be shut down through the end of March as a measure to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

The closure order also applies to all education institutions, gyms, public swimming pools, spas, pubs, clubs, boat cruises, and theaters.

“I urge people to avoid travelling without necessity and not attend or organize large functions and gatherings, including weddings as a preventive measure against coronavirus,” Sawant said.

At the end of last week, the state government had only been contemplating a letter from the state health minister urging the casinos to put in place proper hygiene measures.

There have yet to be any confirmed Covid-19 cases reported in Goa, but in India as whole there have been 113 confirmed cases and two confirmed deaths.
