Government to stipulate minimum IR hotel size

As the central government moves toward compiling its regulations for the “core facilities” for Japanese IRs, it became apparent at a meeting of the Experts Committee last week that a minimum size for hotels would be among the requirements.

Information gathered by the Japanese government found that “average” overseas IR hotels possessed almost 2,500 rooms, which is several times larger than the elite hotels that currently exist in Tokyo.

A yet-to-be-specified lower limit for hotel rooms within Japanese IRs will, therefore, be instituted.

The precise “core facility” IR requirements are expected to be determined by Cabinet resolution by the end of March 2019.
