Governor Nisaka promotes revised IR plan at Wakayama symposium

Gathering at a hotel in Wakayama city, Wakayama Governor Yoshinobu Nisaka once again promoted the concept of building an IR at the Marina City location, this time explaining the contents of the revised plan released by the prefectural government last week.

The keynote speaker at the symposium, which gathered an audience of about 300 people, was Koji Ishikawa, managing partner of Greenberg Traurig Tokyo Office, who spoke about the anticipated positive economic impact on Wakayama from hosting an IR.

Among the panelists was Christopher Jones, vice-president of corporate finance for Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment. Presumably, Mohegan was among the seven international IR operators that participated in the recent Wakayama RFI process.

Mohegan is also one of the six operators courting Tomakomai city in Hokkaido.

For his part, Governor Nisaka faces an election against an anti-casino opponent a month from now, but unlike most other local politicians, he is openly embracing his IR plans rather than downplaying them even as he faces the voters.
