Govt halts construction at Lisboa Palace

The government has ordered the suspension of construction work at the Grand Lisboa Palace after a fatal work accident on Sunday, local media reports.

Authorities said a worker fell from an 8 meter high platform. He was unconscious on the way to hospital, and was in a coma before being pronounced dead.

“The Labour Affairs Bureau has issued a suspension order to the contractor, in order to protect the safety of other workers; and ordered the contractor to fully implement effective measures that improve occupational safety,” said the bureau on Sunday.

The bureau said the contractor can only resume work after receiving approval from the Labor Affairs Bureau.
