A district court in Guam has sentenced an alleged mastermind behind an Illegal gambling scheme to two years in prison and called on him to forfeit more than $400,000 in profit from the operation to the U.S. government, according to local media.
Jimmy Hsieh, along with three other defendants, were sentenced for running an underground illegal gambling scheme at a spa in Tamuning from Jan 2006 to Dec 2010. Both entered plea deals and Perez was sentenced to one year probation.
Guam media reports said the gambling scheme offered games of chance, such as poker and baccarat and took a percentage of the winnings.
Hsieh's defense attorney, Howard Trapp, in arguing for a lighter sentence pointed out the accused had cooperated fully with the court and had returned from overseas travel. Co-accused Wai Kam Ho reportedly fled to Taiwan without posting a bond.
