HK/Macau companies allowed to offer entertainment in Guangdong

Beijing will allow companies from Hong Kong and Macau to open nightclubs, karaoke bars and gaming hubs in the central province of Guangdong without a local joint venture partner, according to media reports.

The decree does not extend to casino gaming.

Companies from the two special administrative regions will be given broader access to the mainland's services market in a bid to boost competitiveness and service quality, the State Council, the country's cabinet, said.

Earlier, investors from Hong Kong and Macau were only allowed to open entertainment venues in a handful of restricted areas in the southern province including Shenzhen's Qianhai District, and Hengqin District in Zhuhai. They were given business licenses under a pilot program started in March 2015 when the government decided to ease controls on the entertainment industry in Guangdong.
