Hostage incident at Goa casino

A group of about forty men reportedly entered a casino in Goa in the early morning hours and allegedly threatened the staff and guests, holding them hostage for a time.

The events occurred at the Pride Casino located within the La Calypso Hotel near Calangute Beach in the North Goa district.

Over three hundred people, including guests and staff members, were present at the time of the incident, but the police have been vague about both the sequence of events as well as the motives of the intruders.

Some reports, however, suggest that there was a dispute over winnings at the casino between a patron and the casino managers.

Thirty people were arrested on charges of rioting and hostage-taking, and presumably about ten others escaped the police.
