India’s Goa state to allow casinos to stay

The government in the Indian state of Goa will not permit new casinos, but will allow existing businesses to stay, according to local media reports.

That comes despite a pledge last year from former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to shift casinos by December of 2015.

“We will not allow new casinos in the state but we can't disturb the existing casino business which is contributing revenue to the state," Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said, adding that existing casinos cannot be asked to move out as it would lead to litigation.

"Casino owners may go to the court and get a stay. We should not disturb a settled business," he said.
