IPI sued over human trafficking claims

Saipan casino operator Imperial Pacific is being sued by former construction workers, claiming they were victims of forced labor and human trafficking during their time with the company, Reuters reports.

On Friday, seven Chinese construction workers made the claim to the Federal Court in Saipan, seeking unspecified monetary compensation for their pain and suffering, as well as punitive damages.

The company has been battling with issues related to its labor force - most recently being a mass exodus of Philippine construction workers as a result of a change to the H2-B visa, leaving the company with a significantly reduced construction labor force.
