Jeju Dream Tower management could face charges for fire safety regulations

Five officials from Jeju Dream Tower resort may face charges for violating fire safety regulations following an incident earlier this month.

According to Allin Media, the Jeju Fire Safety Headquarters confirmed suspicions that Jeju Dream Tower resort deliberately disabled the automatic fire alarm system, resulting in a 17-minute delay before notifying the fire department.
Authorities have transferred five resort officials responsible for the violations to the prosecutor's office. If convicted, they could face up to five years in prison or a fine of up to KRW50 million ($36,000).
The incident occurred on June 9th, when a fire started due to overheating of a sauna heater. The casino was closed for nearly two hours, and several employees required hospital treatment due to smoke exposure.
Jeju Dream Tower, which opened in December 2020, reported cumulative casino sales of nearly KRW117.51 billion ($85.4 million) for the first five months of 2024, marking a 211.4 percent year-on-year increase, according to its latest business update.
