Kangwon Land mulls new slot manufacturing plant

Kangwon Land, the only casino in South Korea where locals can gamble, is planning to build a slot machine manufacturing plant in Taebaek City.

Taebaek City is in Kangwon Province, where the operator is located.
According to local media reports, Lee Sang-ho, Mayor of Taebaek, met with Kangwon CEO Lee Sam-geol earlier this week to discuss regional cooperation projects. There were no further details.
Kangwon Land has its own line of slot machines, under the KL Saberi brand. The slots are featured on its own casino floor and around Asia. Last year, the company signed an accord with game developer Flysher which will see KL Saberi brand slots enter the North American market.
Kangwon is the most successful of South Korea’s casinos, generating more revenue than its listed foreigner-only rivals put together. The government last year extended its license for another 20 years, although in return the company will be required to make a greater contribution to a fund designed to boost the economy in the local area.
