Kazuo Okada released from bail by ICAC

Japanese gaming tycoon Kazuo Okada announced on Friday he has been released from bail by Hong Kong’s Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC).

“Mr. Kazuo Okada is pleased to announce that Hong Kong’s Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) has released him from bail unconditionally this afternoon (22 February 2019).  He no longer needs to report to the ICAC and his bail money was returned to him unconditionally,” wrote an announcement from Aruze Gaming.

Okada’s run-in with the anti-corruption agency came about in August last year after Okada and his associate, Li Jian, were reportedly held by ICAC for conspiracy to defraud Okada Holdings, which was based on a complaint filed by Tiger Resort Asia Ltd.

Later that month, the Japanese billionaire fired back against the allegations made against him by TRA and Universal Entertainment, calling them “false and malicious” and part of “the latest attempt by UEC to harm [his] reputation.”

He also clarified that he was only taken to ICAC to answer questions for the investigation, and reiterated that no criminal charges had been filed at the time.
