Kitakyushu to decide on IR bid stance by January

Kitakyushu Mayor Kenji Kitahashi has indicated that his city will make its basic decision on whether or not to join Japan’s IR race in January, and that discussions with the city council will be completed by the end of March.

He also revealed that three IR operators have been presenting plans to the city, and that this informal RFI will wrap up by January 10.

To sift through the submitted information, thirteen municipal administration section chiefs have been tasked for involvement.

The IR candidate sites appear to be the area immediately north of Kokura Station and the Moji area, along the Kanmon Strait.

One of the mayor’s biggest concerns is the lack of time remaining for Kitakyushu to pull together a competitive bid and to gain public understanding.
