Konami reports flat net revenues for 2014

Konami Corp. reported flat year-on-year net revenues for the last nine months of 2014, with the company’s digital entertainment arm bringing in the bulk of earnings at a 5 percent loss.

Consolidated net revenue for the nine months ended December 31 was ¥155.8 billion (US$1.3 billion), a change of 0 percent on the same period in 2013.

Konami’s video game division, Digital Entertainment, saw revenues fall from $610 million in 2013 to $579 million last year. Net revenue from pachinko and pachinko slot machines almost doubled to $85 million.

The company said despite having to contend with slowing global economies and an uncertain Japanese economy where taxes have dragged on personal consumption, the outlook for the first quarter this year is positive as more sophisticated electronic devices come onto the market.

“With the spread of smartphones and tablet PCs worldwide, the available means of providing games continue to diversify, and opportunities to reach an even greater audience for games are increasing,” the company said in a filing.

“Against this background, our belief is that we can increase the number of “outlets” for the Konami Group’s game content by taking advantage of opportunities presented by the emergence of new devices and developing our business around game content.”
