Koreans arrested over alleged fraud, gambling

A number of South Koreans were arrested across Manila last week on suspicion of internet fraud and illegal online gambling, Philstar reports.

According to Bureau of Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente, twelve suspects were arrested last week, wanted for allegedly conning their associates back home into investing money in bogus real estate projects in the Philippines.

The National Bureau of Investigation on Friday also presented to local media five South Korean nationals who were arrested for running a website for illegal online sports betting and casino gambling.

NBI Deputy Director Ferdinand Lavin said the activity also facilitated money laundering.

Earlier in the same week, the NBI apprehended four South Korean women for allegedly operating an illegal online casino inside a mall.
