Vanuatu may be setting up its fourth land-based casino after receiving interest from investors in Laos to set up a casino on the island, local media reports.
Deputy prime minister Bob Loughman confirmed the news following a trip to Bhutan, Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand.
Loughman said that a group of investors from Laos will visit Vanuatu at the end of next month to continue discussions.
Vanuatu currently has three land-based casinos located in the capital of Port Vila, including Club 21, The Palms Casino, Grand Hotel and Casino.
Mr. Loughman said Port Vila and Luganville on Santo in the north would be excluded as locations for any new casino as there was a need to boost growth and jobs on other Vanuatu islands.
