Laos eases lockdown, casinos remain closed until June 1

The government of Laos has lifted travel restrictions which will allow people to travel freely around the country, though entertainment venues including casinos will remain closed until June 1, local media reports.  

The announcement was issued by the Prime Minister’s Office on Friday, the second time restrictions have been eased since the lockdown was introduced on April 1st. 

Under the eased restrictions, government offices will be allowed to resume operations as normal, but stay at home-work is encouraged.

Official training courses, meetings, and seminars are allowed to take place, but celebratory parties remain prohibited. 

Indoor and outdoor sports, restaurants, retail outlets, beauty salons, supermarkets and massage, and spa providers will also be allowed to reopen.

However, the government says it will continue to enforce measures under Prime Minister’s Order No.6 until June 1, which includes entertainment venues, cinemas, karaoke bars, night markets, casinos, gaming shops, and sports competitions involving a large number of people who cannot remain one meter apart.

The country has also continued to suspend all types of entry visas for citizens traveling from COVID-19 outbreak countries.
