Las Vegas Sands has begun preliminary evaluation for a possible investment in Taiwan, amid efforts by the government to draw in foreign investment, local media reports.
The location of a possible casino is Taoyuan County in northern Taiwan, where major gateway -- Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport -- is located.
Taiwan is said to be keen to sell its aero-tropolis and smart city plans to international investors, and Taoyuan Aerotropolis officials say the project is focusing on American, Japanese and European investors, rather than Chinese.
A biotechnology company, Celgene Co., is also reportedly interested in expanding its investment in Taiwan as a pathway to the Chinese market.
The Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs this week hosted an event for potential investors in New York this week and plans to send a delegation to Los Angeles and San Francisco.
