Lawmaker to submit bill for development of integrated resorts

National Assemblyman Park Chang-Sik of the ruling Saenuri Party has said that he would introduce a bill next month supporting the development of integrated resorts. "I am confident that Integrated Resorts (IR) is the surest way to creating new jobs," said the lawmaker, who is also a member of the National Assembly's Education, Culture, Sports & Tourism Committee.

The bill would be title ‘Special Act to Develop Integrated Resort Industry for the Promotion of Youth Employment and Social Welfare’ and would permit IRs with open casinos in Korea. The assemblyman claimed that problems related to gambling can be minimized by establishing a regulatory body to oversee gaming. He said that the bill included a mandatory provision that requires a certain number of employees to be hired at the IRs, violators of which will have to pay a fine to the national employment fund.
