Licensed junket operators fall to fewer than a hundred

The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) revealed that there are now only 95 licensed junket operators in Macau, a sharp fall from the 2013 peak of 235.

2019 was the seventh consecutive year that the number of licensed promoters, either individuals or companies, decreased in Macau, in large part due to tighter regulation.

Last October, the DICJ drew up draft regulations aimed at raising the standard on background checks of those involved in the junket industry, including their capital sources.

Legislation is said to be under consideration that may tighten controls on junket operators further.
