Loan shark ring busted

The Judiciary Police said it had arrested 13 men as it busted the largest loan-sharking operation since Macau's 1999 return to Chinese rule. The ring, believed to have been in operation since 2000, had been under investigation for two and a half years and is believed to have lent at least $64 million in 2,500 loans to gamblers who members approached as they lost money at casino tables. Six of those arrested are from Macau with the others from Hong Kong and mainland China. The police seized HK$500,000 ($64,000) in cash and 30,000 in chips. Police are looking for another 10 suspects.
