Macau authorities to battle illegal sports betting as Euro 2016 begins

Macau’s Judiciary Police (PJ) in cooperation with the Public Security Police (PSP) is reportedly organizing a crime prevention campaign in the NAPE district, according to Macau TDM.

“The police will be present in bars and establishments, where football fans gather, to raise awareness against this illegal practice,” said PJ spokesperson Tam Veng Keong in a quote to TDM.

According to the PJ, the campaign is a joint effort between Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Macau police authorities to fight illegal sports betting.

Last week, the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department (GPPSD) reported that up to 40,000 gamblers were involved in illegal sports betting in the region, reported local media.
