Macau employment rates remain stable during December to February


Macau’s unemployment and underemployment rates remained stable during December to February from the previous period, data from the Statistics and Census Service shows.

The unemployment rate was 1.7 percent and underemployment rate 0.4 percent for the three months compared with the previous period from November to January 2015.

Total labour force was 403,400 and the labour force participation rate stood at 74.0 percent. Total employment was 396,500, a decrease of 1,300 from November to January.

“Analysed by industry, employment in Hotels, Restaurants & Similar Activities and Construction saw decrease.”

The number of workers in the gaming industry dipped slightly from 85,400 to 85,100, or 1.4 percent.

The number of unemployed was 6,900, up by 200.

“Fresh labour force entrants searching for their first job accounted for 9.2 percent of the total unemployed, down by 2.1 percentage points,” the government report says.
