Macau has gained 18,400 non-resident workers since January

Macau’s companies have employed more than 18,400 non-resident workers since January, according to data published today by the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL).

The figure shows that the tally of non-resident workers in the gaming hub reached 170,286 in August.
Since lifting COVID-related travel restrictions in January this year, the number of non-resident workers has gradually increased. However, the current figures remain significantly below the pre-pandemic peak of 196,538, which was recorded in December 2019.
The majority of non-resident workers in Macao are from mainland China, comprising 118,292 individuals. Additionally, there are sizable groups of workers from the Philippines (26,835), Vietnam (7,565), and Indonesia (5,686).
By the end of August, the number of non-residents working in recreational, cultural, gaming, and other services reached 9,315.
In the first half of the year, the Macau hospitality industry faced a labor shortage, as there were not enough operation staff to handle the surge of visitor arrivals.
