Macau gaming tax revenue gains 2.3 percent to July

Macau said it has collected MOP67.2 billion ($8.4 billion) in tax revenue from gaming operators in the seven months through July, more than two thirds of its forecast for the year.

The revenue collection is 2.3 percent higher than the amount collected in the same period of last year. The government has set a budget forecast of MOP98.2 billion in gaming revenue for the full year.

Figures released by the Financial Services Bureau show Macau’s total tax revenue for the period was MOP74.8 billion, indicating that gaming makes up almost 90 percent of the total.

Macau has been seeking to diversify its revenue sources, urging the operators to incorporate more non-gaming amenities to create a broader tourism base. It has also been seeking to support small and medium-sized businesses and to foster a finance industry, though the figures still show its reliance on gaming.
