Macau GGR returns to growth in May

Macau gross gaming revenue grew 1.8 percent year-on-year in May, reversing a trend of decline since March, according to data from the Gaming and Inspection Bureau.

Gross gaming revenue from the city’s six gaming concessionaires reached MOP 26 billion (US$3.2 billion) in the month, up 1.8 percent from a year earlier.

The results were a 10 percent increase from April 2019 GGR and came in at the lower end of analyst estimates.

GGR in Macau has been hampered by the ongoing US-China trade dispute and a smoking ban that came into effect on January 1.

Macau GGR for the first five months of 2019 is down 1.6 percent year-on-year to MOP125.7 billion.
