Macau hotels had average occupancy rate of 12.9 percent in April


The Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) has confirmed the dire state of the hotel industry in Macau, noting that the Covid-19 impacts reduced the average occupancy rates to only 12.9 percent in April.

A total of 110 hotels and guesthouses were open for business during the month.

The occupancy rate of five-star hotels was only 6.6 percent, with less expensive options suffering severe, but not quite as steep, declines.

A total of 107,000 guests checked into Macau hotels and guesthouses in April, which represented a decline of 90.6 percent year-on-year.
