Macau on track for MOP 200 billion year-end target

The latest Macau casino revenue figures are in line with the government’s forecast of MOP 200 billion (US$25 billion) for 2016.

According to a statement from the Government Information Bureau (GES), the government continues to stand by its forecast of gross gaming revenue for the year 2016, with a monthly average of MOP 16.6 billion.

The first six months of 2016 has seen revenue totalling MOP 107.8 billion, hitting a little over halfway of the total year end estimation.

The government also expects that year-on-year decline will narrow in the second half of 2016, due to “conditions in the international and regional economy.”

The government also noted that revenue from the mass market segment contributed 53.1 percent of overall gaming revenue, an increase of 10 percent compared to the first six months of 2015, adding it was committed to putting more resources in to stimulate the development of non-gaming elements.

“The Government will allocate more resources to help stimulate the development of non-gaming elements in the city’s tourism sector. This is part of the effort to coordinate the transformation of Macao as a world centre of tourism and leisure; and to propel a sustainable and healthy development of the city’s gaming industry.”
