Macau operators reminded to remain neutral in elections

Macau’s gaming operators have been reminded to remain neutral and impartial, and to avoid any form of campaigning ahead of this year’s legislative assembly election.

In a meeting held on Wednesday, the Chairman of the Electoral Affairs Commission for the Legislative Assembly Election, Mr Tong Hio Fong reminded Macau’s local gaming concessionaires and gaming promoters that any public entities and bodies and holders of public concessions, cannot take part, either directly or indirectly, in any campaigning events, or act in support of – or in opposition to – particular electioneering teams.

The chairman also noted that the rules also apply to employees of gaming concessionaires and sub-concessionaires during their time on company premises.

The legislative assembly is a 33 member body comprising 14 directly elected members, 12 indirectly elected members and 7 members appointed by the chief executive.
