Macau registered problem gamblers falls to record low

The number of people reporting gambling problems fell to a record low in Macau in 2018, according to the Central Registry of People with Gambling Disorder.

The number of reported cases fell to 133 from 157 and is the lowest since the registry began in 2011 with 144.

The majority of cases, 81.2 percent of the total, were men, up from 64.9 percent the prior year. The median age of the problem gambler was 39.1 years, while the largest percentage were in the 40 to 49 age range at 25.5 percent.

According to the data, just over half of the registered problem gamblers were married, with the majority, just over 81 percent, being residents of Macau. The figures also showed that the profile of the problem gambler was a person employed, with a secondary level education.

The number of problem gamblers employed in the gaming industry fell for croupiers to 6.9 from 11.03, while the number of those employed in other areas of the industry registered a gain.
