Macau SJM employees urge action on labor issues

Staff at SJM Holdings are threatening to walk out on Saturday if casino bosses don't respond to their demands for higher wages and better working conditions, according to local media reports."We first tried to negotiate, but the casinos didn't listen to us. So we have been organising protests to let them know what we want," Kelvin Leong Kuok-cheong, general secretary of the union was cited as saying. The workers are seeking better pay and benefits and also an easier system for proving entitlement to sick pay. Staff last weekend began industrial action, turning up late for shifts and refusing to work overtime.
