Macau to co-operate with Fujian to boost economic ties

Macau’s Secretary for Economy and Finance, Leong Vai Tac, said following his visit to Fujian that Macau will seek to co-operate with the Chinese province to boost economic ties.

Speaking to reporters at the end of his two-day visit, Leong said aspects of co-operation could include MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions and events), finance, trade, tourism and culture.

The meeting chimes with President Xi Jinping’s advice on strengthening Macau’s own competitiveness and boosting regional co-operation, especially with neighbouring cities such as Guangdong and Fujian.

As part of the co-operation, the Macau government will invite Fujian enterprises to help diversify the economy.

Further trade opportunities for Fujian and Macau may arise following Tuesday’s launch of the The Fujian Pilot Free Trade Zone.

Leong said the government will make more effort in promoting the FTZ in Macau, including organizing visits to create awareness of the zone.
