Macau to kick off gaming and hotel skills competition on Tuesday

Macau’s first integrated competition for hotel and gaming employees is set to kick off next Tuesday across Macau, Macau Daily Times reports.

Supported by the Institute for Tourism Studies (IFT), by the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) and by the Macao Polytechnic Institute, the Macau Integrated Tourism and Leisure Enterprise Vocational Skills Competition will run from January 17 to 19, with an awards ceremony on January 23.

Macau’s six gaming concessionaires will be sending a team to each competition, which includes a Gaming Vocational Skills Category, a Hotel Skills Competition, and a Cooking Skills Competition.

The Gaming Vocational Skills Competition will be the first to kick off the event, held on January 15 at the Workers Stadium.

Each team will consist of two members, and participants will be required to calculate cards, along with other gaming table skills.

On January 17, the hotel service competition will be carried out at IFT.

Each team will consist of three members who will be given tasks related to hotel room arrangements.

Finally, on January 18 at the MUST teaching kitchen, each team of five members will be requested to cook an appetizer, a main and dessert for a panel of judges.

The winners will be announced at an award ceremony held at Fishermans Wharf on January 23.

President of the Macau Federation of Trade Unions, Chan Kam Meng, said he hoped the competition will encourage Macau’s tourism and leisure companies to maintain their world-class standards.

“Our hotels are world first-class. Macau is the center of the world’s gaming industry. Our service level has been continuously improving, which let tourists enjoy Macau’s service,” said Chan.

Chan said he hoped in the future that international teams will be able to participate in order to further improve the services provided by local businesses in the leisure and tourism fields.
