Macau unemployment rate for April to June stable at 1.8 percent


Macau’s unemployment rate for April to June remained stable at 1.8 percent as in the previous period, March to May.

Total employment decreased slightly by 200 to 398,300, while the number of  unemployed was 7,200, similar to that in March to May, according to the Statistics and Census Service.

The total labor force was 405,400 and the labor force participation rate stood at 73.9 percent.

Employment in gaming and junket activities dropped by 800 to 83,800, while that in hotels and similar activities rose by 2,300 to 28,400.

Macau’s economy has been shrinking since gaming revenues plummeted, with gross domestic product expected to contract to the “mid-teens” for  2015, according to the Monetary Authority of Macao.
