Macau visitor arrivals increased 53.7 percent month-on-month in September, reaching 629,085, attributed to an easing of entry and travel requirements for Macau.
According to Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), the figure was also a 40.1 percent year-on-year improvement, with same day visitors and overnight visitors up 20.2 percent and 76.1 percent respectively.
Macau was open to visitors for most of the month, having only gone into lockdown after a positive coronavirus case was discovered on September 26, which later led to a drastic fall in visitor numbers.
Visitors from mainland China surged 41.4 percent year-on-year during the month to 583,056. Around 188,000 came from Zhuhai.
The figure took the total visitor arrivals for the first 9 month of the year to 5.7 million, up 43.2 percent compared to the prior year period.
