Mainland China individual traveller scheme to Macau and HK expanded

The Chinese Central Government has announced plans to expand the current individual visit scheme for Chinese nationals to visit Macau and Hong Kong.

This expansion will now include the two major cities of Xi’an and Qingdao, potentially adding around 20 million visitors to Macau and Hong Kong. The implementation of the expanded scheme will take effect on March 6th.
The announcement was made during the visit of a top Chinese official to Hong Kong.
Xia Baolong, the chief in charge of Macau and Hong Kong affairs in the Central Government, is on a 7-day visit to Hong Kong, during which benefit measures aimed at boosting Hong Kong’s economy will be announced.
Despite authorities' efforts to increase international visitors, Macau's gaming industry continues to heavily rely on Chinese visitors.
