Malaysian man sentenced 4 years in jail for theft at Marina Bay Sands

A 24-year-old Malaysian man who was arrested for stealing almost SG$1 million worth of casino chips, along with car keys and cash, has been sentenced to 48 months’ jail, local media reports.

Yeoh Jackson, pleaded guilty to stealing a S$1,000 Zegna clutch bag, cash of S$9,100, Marina Bay Sands Casino Paiza chips worth S$900,000, a mobile phone and a set of BMW car keys from Charles Patrick, a 71-year-old man who was playing at a baccarat table at Marina Bay Sands on Sept 2 last year.

Jackson then fled the country and was arrested five months later in Malaysia, on Jan. 18 of this year.

When faced with District Judge Salina Ishak at court, the first-time offender said he committed the offences as he had lost money gambling, and was very remorseful for what he had done. "I shall make sure this will be my last,'' he said.
