Marianas Stars urges two casino licenses for Saipan

Marianas Stars Entertainment, one of two companies competing for a casino license on Saipan has called on the government to consider allowing both projects to go ahead, according to local media.
The company published an open letter in Saipan’s newspapers saying such a move would promote competition and double public revenue.
The government passed a bill to allow casinos on the island late last year to generate revenue to plug a shortfall in pension funding and boost tourism. The bill is opposed by anti-gambling activists who are seeking to get enough names on a petition to force a referendum on the issue later this year.
