Melco builds its Japan team

Melco is building its base in Japan even as some other international operators are hesitating in advance of the October 22 general election.

Ako Shiraogawa has been appointed the president of Melco Resorts & Entertainment Japan, and the company announced the opening of two offices—one in Tokyo and the other in Osaka.

Before joining Melco in September, Ms. Shiraogawa had an extensive international business career, working in Beijing and Helsinki, as well as in Tokyo, for companies such as Nokia and Microsoft.

Melco also announced that it has become an official partner with Osaka in its bid for the 2025 World Expo, which is a major priority for the Osaka prefectural and city governments. If Osaka wins its bid, it plans to host the World Expo on Yumeshima, directly adjoining the anticipated site of the IR.

Lawrence Ho, president and CEO of Melco International, released a statement expressing his long-held admiration for Japanese arts and culture, and declaring his hope to become a partner in a future large-scale Japanese IR.
