Melco Cyprus casinos to reopen mid-July

Melco Resorts’ Cyprus casinos will remain closed until at least mid-July, though some businesses on the Mediterranean island have been allowed to reopen, local media reports.

The move is part of Cyprus president Nicos Anastasiades' plans for a phased reopening of the island - which first allows construction projects to resume as well as retail stores not located inside shopping malls.

Hotels, shopping malls, and airports are scheduled to reopen on June 9. However, casinos will not be allowed to reopen until July 14.

These dates however are dependent on coronavirus cases following a steady downward decline.

In a population of 12 million, Cyprus currently has 874 coronavirus cases and 15 deaths as a result of the coronavirus.
