Melco Crown’s City of Dreams may be fined as much as MOP100,000 ($12,519) for violations of the territory’s smoking ban, local media cited Health Bureau deputy director Cheang Seng Ip as saying.
The bureau has been investigating reports the casino turned part of its mass market floor into a smoking area without permission.
Macau banned smoking on casino floors from Oct. 6th, except in especially designated smoking areas with no gaming machines, or in separate VIP rooms.
The areas in Melco’s casino had been approved as VIP rooms, but not as smoking zones. The room was approved by the city’s gambling regulator, but the casino operator should have applied separately for a smoking area from the Health Bureau.
